Anyway yesterday morning, a search for "example-icity" returned "0 results". Then it hit the BBC news site and during the day started to steadily pick up momentum. By the end of the first day it was up to 330 results.
Watching it today on the second day, and it's 4pm, we're up to a shade over 24,000 results on the term. Call me sad, but I think its fascinating to watch a brand new term gather momentum like this.

I've continued to monitor and chart these every day and after it hit 2 million, it started the slide, although in percentage terms it's starting to level out a little now. It was losing around 10% per day for some time, now it's around 4-5% a day.
As previously mentioned I guess this is dupe news items and stuff being weedled out. The cut-down term has been steadily rising during that time, however a lit of this seems to be from one site or syndicated content.
