Does A Static Page Title Help

Thanks for any help in advance.

We have customer review website where users rate products and at the moment our tittle reads:-

"Bright Blue Widget - Rated by 9 users"

Every time a new user rates the bright blue widget the number goes up and the tittle changes. Looking at it on a daily basis we get 10,000 users rating this means 10,000 of our tittles change. Could this be affecting us in the SERPS. We have noticed a huge drop off in traffic since Jan 2007.

Did you make this change before January 2007?

Frequent title changes could be an issue. Instead of letting the count increase without limit, you might want to put some sort of limit (like "Bright Blue Widget - Rated by 5+ users").

Hmmm, a dynamic title that changes each time for the same page. I would think that "could" cause issues somewhere in the pipeline.

"Bright Blue Widget - Rated by 9 users"

But, we are only referring to a number that changes, the primary phrase is static.

To avoid any issues, drop the "- Rated by 9 users" dynamic. It probably appears elsewhere on the page, no need to dilute your <title> Element. Also, I'd look at changing that title a bit so that you were targeting a broader subset of phrases.

Thanks for your replies, I will do a couple of test this week and will update you with the results. I think changing to a static tittle will help.

I agree with pageoneresults. Dynamically changing titles could really hurt you, in my opinion. I understand that only one character is changing all the time, but to google this just flags the page as 'unstable'. Google prefers stability. Likewise, I suggest not to mess around too much with META tags. Make sure those are correct first time around, then leave well alone!

I would move the count to the meta description if you really think it ought to show up in the SERPs... then repeat it in the page text somewhere too.

I believe in leaving alone a page title.
