Well am not expert in algorithm, bbut i can still make out small change. Just a two moths back, google's (and yahoo as well) was having 96% bcklinks from its own pages, whereas now backlinks caoming from other webpages and only 5% from its own pages.

Can any veteran people point out to the changes has been brought?

This is a change in what Google reports to you, but that doesn't mean it's a change in how the algorithm actually ranks URLs. Google's reporting features (special operators, Webmaster Tools, etc) so far have always been a bit buggy. They don't seem to be prioritized as highly as actually generating the search results. That's natural I suppose, if a bit frustrating. After all search results are the core of Google's business.

Plus, Google has never reported backlinks consistently - and they openly admit they only ever show a sample of backlinks.

The key is to remember that the various reports do not necessarily reflect Google's private, back end reality used in ranking your site. So your ranking and traffic are what matter most. If the reported links, numbers, etc show a change - but your rankings don't change - then that has nothing to do with the algorithm. The tail does not wag the dog.

Does this mean that you can increase the PR of your homepage by linking to it from every page of your own site?
