Hi

New here, hope I don't get this wrong!

I've got a site (new domain) that I released live in end of March/start of April, at Easter. In January I linked it from two of my existing domains to get it initially crawled and in Google ready. When it went live I submitted a sitemap via Sitemaps, exactly how I'd done my previous sites.

Google picked up the domain from the initial linking, and crawled the holding page I had in place, and it showed up in a search for the domain.

A couple of weeks ago however, all trace of it disappeared from the SERPS. Since I took it live I've done some link building (mostly reputable directories, but all in appropriate sections with appropriate keywords), and the links to the site show up in Google, but the site still doesn't, and Sitemaps says it was last accessed on March 8th, but no pages are indexed.

That's fine so far, I understand there's sandbox issues where the site doesn't show up for a while.

However - in my Sitemap tools, the page that describes all the keywords found in my sites' content lists words that have only been added in the content since the end of April, so it would have to have accessed the site since then, rather than the March 8th date sitemaps tells me.

Does this sound odd, or am I just being impatient and need to wait for it to pick it up properly again?

Any info greatly appreciated!

It does sound odd - except for the fact that many people here are reporting that Google Webmaster Tools seems stuck [webmasterworld.com] right now and is not updating.

Couple that with a new website that normally could have a slow start, and you are unfortunately in the dark about what's going on. I would not panic unless people here start reporting new data in GWT and you still see nothing happening.

Interesting that you see keywords newer than the last date - another indicator that GWT is still not dependable.

Thanks for the reply and the pointer to the other topic.

It does look perhaps quite related, but there are some inconsistencies. This has been ongoing stuck since the 3rd March, the last date the bot says it visited my site, whereas my other site on the same account has been visited about 5 times in the same period, most recently June 8th. I realise that sites get visited at different rates, just pointing out it's just this site within this account.

As for the tools being stuck, my links and words in the second, working account haven't been updated for a while. However, on the first "stuck" account, the words found in my sites content has yet again been updated within the last week and a half, seemingly proving that the googlebot HAS been to my site and crawled the front page at least, even though it doesn't reckon it has for updating the last crawl date.

Very odd - but unfortunately I guess I've just got to sit tight and wait! I'm going to get it into the Yahoo site tool tonight and pay some attention to other engines while I wait for Google to wake up, I guess that's the only thing I can do.

Thanks again.

So I figured out why my site wasn't being indexed. After all the care and attention I put into developing it and doing some link building early on, I somewhat stupidly left some debugging code in. I have the site sat on two domains, a .com and a .co.uk, and I put in some code to put a meta tag noindex, nofollow on the co.uk, and accidentally left it on both!

*slinks away to sit in the corner quietly*

Thanks for sharing your painful story. I think we've all made some rough errors in our histories, but that one's got to hurt. At least you can repair this one with no long-term damage.
