Hi - I have a fairly new ecommerce site. I'm working on getting some backlinks. I figured the best start was to get the manufacturers of the products I sell to link back to me. However, when I check the backlinks for the other ecommerce sites on their pages, I don't see the manufacturer's page in the result. In other words, I go to the manufacturer's page that lists it's retailers. I check a couple of the links in google via link:www.example.com & I don't see the manufacturer's page. And yes, they are linking directly to the homepage. Does this mean that the manufacturer's page isn't being crawled by google? Do all linkbacks show up when using link:www.example.com? It seems odd to me because some of the manufacturers are fairly well known & have reputable sites.

[edit reason] use example.com - it can never be owned [/edit]

Hello ksmith18, and welcome to the forums.

Google's link: operator does not ever list all the links they know about - in fact it often only shows a small sampling. For more information see The link: Operator it's not like other search engines! [webmasterworld.com]. We keep that thread in our Hot Topics area, which is pinned to the top of this forum's index page.

If you want to see if a page is crawled and in the Google index, I'd suggest using the site: operator for their site.
