Google news results showing in normal SERPS

Never seen this before!

While checking a single keyword search relevant to my main site I noticed a kind of listing I'd never seen before -- in tenth place was (hyperlinked) "News results for keyword". The link was accompanied by an image, captioned "New York Times" as well as by a link to an NYT story which looked just like a normal listing except for the "News results for keyword" link immediately above it.

The "News results..." link of course led to a page of Google News results.

Anyone else seeing similar results?

I find it interesting that Google's integrating their own search results pages (for news) into the SERPS. It's also a bummer for me since my site's been knocked off the first page of results.

Yeah they are moving it around. Sometimes at the top of the page, sometimes in the middle, sometimes at the bottom.

Your suggestion that they're moving the news result around implies that you don't think these are being treated as normal results. Is that the case?

Ok, I just saw this for a term that couldn't be more e-commerce related. I dare G to show any metrics where a searcher is looking for "News" on the term.

After reading Adam's lovely post in the "ethics" of Google thread and actually having sympathy for him/them, I'm back to my "always-question-any-G-employee's-motives" mindset.

Sigh. Wonder how much their adwords clicks go up when they place the "News" results smack dab in the middle of SERPS?
