Hi Guys,

I have been reading your forum for a while now. My name is Sam and I hope I can help contribute to your site.

I have a question regarding the above. Hope it is in the right section.

I need to move a whole section of a site to a different domain. The target domain is not new so I don't think it will be sandboxed by Google.

The content will be similar but not the same on the new domain as it is being updated at the same time (out of my control).

I was planning on using 301 redirects to do this. Will my PR and link popularity move over in a month or so? Also, do I need to get the inbound external links updated or leave them to deal with the 301? Will i still get the same amount of traffic from Google or will it drop for a while?

Thanks in advance,

Sam.

The 301 will have some down time in Google. It should only be a few weeks. If you can get some of the links moved that would be a good thing to do. Only problem with asking for links to be moved is they may just take them down altogether.

Thanks for your reply.

Why would it be beneficial to alter inbound links? Surely the 301 would ensure that they get to the correct destination and still count as an incomming link. Or does Google see them as inbound links from my old domain?
