Strange behavior with Webmaster Tools stats site:operator

Click the site:domain.com in WT and get different results upon refreshing

I searched around for this using the site search tool at the top but didn't find this exact problem reported.

I've been noticing for the past week or so that when I check my site's index stats from within Webmaster Tools the results I get from the very first time I click it are very different than any subsequent clicks or refreshes of the results.

The first click on the site: link might give me "Results 1 - 8 of 8 ..." or "Results 1 - 10 of about 14 from ..." which seems crazy. If I click the link again or refresh the page the results then go to 1 - 10 of about 157,000 which seems more realistic and historically accurate for the site.

Does anyone else see this behavior? Is this something to be worried about?

Their site: command is broken. That's it.

I realize that it could be broken but I don't understand this repeatable behavior. I only see it happen when I click through from Webmaster Tools the first time in a browser session. Any subsequent clicks on the site: operator or refreshes result in expanded results.

I find it odd because in any given session I could be connecting to different data centers yet the behavior is always the same. Same in a sense that it doesn't seem broken but possibly this behavior is by design.
