Seems like after 4 years hard work my index page has been totally dropped by google after being first for a major keyword, first page it finds in the index is an internal page.
In webmaster tools the highest page ranked page is this internal page, 90% of the external links to my site are to the index....
Any ideas?
Thanks

Yep, same has happened to me in the last couple of days. Been top for a couple of fairly major terms for a few years and now index page is just gone but internal pages remain.
Not sure of the cause yet, but webmaster tools is showing up some odd stuff that I'm looking into.

Relax; it will come back. Google dropped a PR4 main page for me and without doing anything, it came back after a couple of days. I still don't know the logic - I am assuming it is an error.

Same here. One of my websites' index page almost disappeared. After some research, I found out that another website had stolen some of my content copying it so grossly that they even left some links to my site (all my internal links are absolute). The stolen content is not from my index page, but their site comes up first for very specific searches (long phrases copied from my internal pages), whereas mine is in supplemental results. I have reported the matter to Google 4 days ago, and I am still waiting to see any results.

all my internal links are absolute
Is that for any SEO reason?

MattJ, on all my sites, all my links have always been absolute, because this is the recommended way (recommended by GoogleGuy himself).

Not touched the site for 3 months now, one day there, the next disappeared, but only the index page, not quite annoying enough :(
