Strange Ranking Pattern in Google

Home page with snippet is #3, article not in top 20

Two nights ago, I wrote a 600 word article on 'reusable widgets'. Today, I did a search for those keywords in Google, and found my work came in as the #3 result. But the strange thing is that the page that ranked third was the site's home page, which is setup blog-style to contain the first paragraph of the last 15 articles. The page that contains the full article did not rank in the top 20.

This is great for now, but what happens after 15 more posts, when that article gets pushed off the index page?

On seeing this, I thought of previous posts claiming 'shorter is better' with the new algos. Anyone else see something like this?

maybe two days aren't enough...give it some more time.

Probably right - thought of that shortly after posting. Will keep an eye on it to see if it really is strange, or just an adjustment.
