Has anyone got any idea what this could be...
... I run an established content website and over the last couple of days a heap (but not all) of our traffic from Google has gone as we seem to have been pushed down quite significantly for our search terms.
I have also noticed that if I run site:http://www.example.com I get returned 350 pages only ... Should be high 5 figures! (I can see these if I click the display omitted link) . I am assuming that I have got hit with some kind of penalty here, but am not sure what.
Running the same earch for some of my compeitors also return the same 350 number of pages, and again I can see their true figure by clicking the show omitted link.
Has this happened to anyone else, and if so what have you done, any replies appreciated. Can the guys at adwords (I am an advertiser too) help?
Here are the steps I am taking...
... Removing holding pages which were created as we added a subject but had no content and using a 307 temporary redirect (as the pages will have content one day) to a more useful page.
... 301 on non-www
... 301ing my other websites which are not dup content but are in the same niche so will have the same pages
... I will then be looking through and submitting a reonclusion request
