Here on WebmasterWorld and other SEM forums we see a lot of posts that are reactions to Google algorithm changes and updates. I thought it would be insightful to switch gears for a bit and to look away from the past, toward the future. You know a wind is a coming. So if ye'd be so kind....and Thankee Sai.

  1. What changes do you think Google will make to their ranking algorithm before December 31, 2007?
  2. What are you doing to prepare for the next Google algorithm updates?
  3. For context, in the most general terms, what type of domain or domain network do you own or manage?

I'll be posting my own answers soon. I need to put some thought into this, but I wanted to get the question out here. I look forward to your insights.

1) Substantially refine personalized and location-based searches. We won't have "THE SERPS" any more, then. Google ('s search results) will split into millions of user-dependent children, unnoticed by the average user. This is a natural process called "radiation" (Stanislaw Lem: "Summa Technologiae", 1964,II.3.ff.).
2) Switch from coffee to tea.
3) niche B&M-store.

1) Dunno.

2) Continue to focus on "organic" content and using common-sense SEO techniques like using descriptive titles and headlines that won't confuse search crawlers or prospective readers.

3) Editorial travel-planning site.

Google have indicated that personal / local is the way forward, and SEOs are already saying they'll ignore that: "we'll still aim for the basic non-personalized serps", said one Major Person, "And tell the punter that will be carried through to personal results later".

1. Google will be seeking to undermine that message, on the basis that 'personal search' is now to be 'the only search'

2. Continuing to site build on the simple basis that (1) Content is King; (2) Design=SEO=Design; (3) Links from quality directories are vital, (4) Bloated code is a curse and (5) Good site navigation is a wormhole to the stars.

That's a Royal Flush, isn't it?

3. Plain vanilla HTML niche sites
