I recently added some text to the home page. I added a tagline and made some other changes. The text I added was the name of the company. The name of the comapmy is "Corporate Widgets of (some country)."
Now, in the past, when typing in corporate widgets, we have ranked #2. It's been this way for the past year. Everyonce in a while, we'll pop up to #1, but normally it's the #2 spot.
After making the changes, the very next day, when typing in corporate widgets, we are found at #126, but it isn't the homepage... it's 2 other pages on the site. The home page is not listed any of the returns. Doing a site: shows all pages. Searching for Corporate Widgets of (some country) returns the home page at #1 (like usual). Using some datacenter tools shows are old ranking of #2 for corporate widgets. When searching for corporate widget (without the s) we return at our #2 spot.
Anyway, now for some questions...
In the past, I have made changes like this to some of our sites and have seen similar results. I would wait a week or two, sometimes a month or more and eventually it would straighten out. I was suprised that G picked up on this change so quickly and dropped the home page. So, how long should I wait to see if the site returns to its previous #2 ranking? Should I assume that since the change resulted in a drastic result so quickly that dropping the added text would yield the same result just as quick?
Sorry if these question seem so rudimentary. The rolling changes are happening much faster now and I am trying to get a feel as to the Change/Result ratio time frame.
