1. Greatwidgets.com is a site about "wonderful goodness"
2. "Useful stuff-42" can function in a capacity as "wonderful goodness" but "wonderful goodness" is just one of many things "useful stuff-42" can be.
3. Thus "useful stuff-42" is not inherently or even mostly "wonderful goodness" it's just a role that "useful stuff-42" CAN have.
4. There are about 1000 different kinds of "useful stuff" on greatwidgets.com, all operating in the context as "wonderful goodness". As you may guess these pages are primarily infomational in nature.
The owner of THE domain about "useful stuff-42" just gave their site to us. Unfourtunatly, all the content of the page has been lost.
Long term my plans are to rebuild the "useful stuff-42" site. However because the owner is no longer directly involved, over time, it will be impossible to keep the current domain at its present popularity. Since they are the undisputed champion concerning "useful stuff-42".
I have been thinking about 301 redirecting their domain to my greatwidgets.com subpage that is about "useful stuff-42", and incorporating their reams of data (that I will have to rebuild over time) as additional subpages.
Will this dilute my greatwidgets.com keyword rankings? I do not want greatwidgets.com to rank highly for "useful stuff-42" and dilute its "great widgets" rankings. Any thoughts?
