To my dissapointment google ranked every single page 'supplemental' after the first deep crawl, except the home page.

Each page has an average of 500 words of unique content and an original picture. Every meta description is unique and hand written. I'm using wiki as a CMS and the URLs are clean: /directory/page

What can be done for google to recognize them as unique pages?

This is a pretty common situation. The main reason for supplemental results on a new site is low PR. As your backlinks grow, your PR builds and those supplemental urls will migrate into the regular index

Tedster is right. I have a new site that only had the home page in the main index. Once it obtained enough inbound links to obtain a TB page rank 3 then about another 100 pages made it into the main index. These pages were all within 2 clicks of the home page. I'm expecting to see more pages indexed as I continue to get links and pagerank.

freelistfool - thanks for sharing this - have those PR'd pages produced any significant traffic?

btw - visible PR is concealed until the next update, even though it may be in operation.

I'm trying to understand the correlation in the indexing cycle between the assignment of PR and the production of traffic.

Not much yet. Basically some long tail stuff and searches that match my title or other page text exactly. However, the hits are growing slowly .

I have an older site that's PR4 on the toolbar, and all the interior pages are now showing PR0 and are supplemental.
