One Link from One I.P. To Rule Them All

...or many links from many unique IPs to secure higher PR + SERPS

Normally I try and get as many links as possible from wherever I can get them. Normally if a site (for instance a forum) I like and generates leads I will hang about there knowing my sig links will throw a couple of (lightweight) PR / traffic my way. I try and mine important and "relevant" links myself in other ways to boost traffic.

Do you think I would be better off forgetting about numbers of links and thinking of number of IP Votes when aiming for better serps - ie not PR?

ie as soon as you have a link from one IP (website) move on to another?

Would it be reasonable to assume Google will somehow, sometime find the most valuable link to me from a group of 20 links spread accross 20 pages on a site and reward me with the benefits of that one "best" link anyway?
