Google made me aware of a Page not found error which I am greatful for. The only problem the link points to a backup page that shouldn't exist! I think backing up a folder in a wysiwyg recalculated a link. HOw do I go about finding that link! My editor can't find it in a search, and Google isn't showing a referal where the link originated from. Does anyone have an idea how to locate it?

Why not simply redirect it? I was recently shown two 404's that I wasn't aware of, one of them from a page that's been gone for at least 3 years. It could be recip from someone, or just a link that Google remembers. It could even still be in my site somewhere - a remote possibility, but given my track record still possible. No matter, I used .htaccess and 301'ed the broken link to the correct page. Problem solved.

Sitemaps recently showed an error to a page that's been gone six years. Sitemaps is great for clearing these out with 301s as was suggested.

you should be able to use the links tab to figure out which url is pointing to the missing page...
