pda version of google used for many mobile phones. it is a low impact display (no description text on the serps - only titles). PocketPC Internet Explorer defaults to that page as the default Google search.

hi

whats the diference with

[google.com...]

this is left aligned instead of centred

I am planning for .mobi sites, so, it would be good to know why google has 2 separate mobile/small device sites

The SERPS for the /ie are very very different from the main google. A quick check of some of the terms I watch returns stuff I have never seen before. Random stuff like forum threads, yahoo shopping, and pages that should be served on long tail searches. Any insight on this?

The results for google.com/ie are completely similar to one's at google.com

I think brett is right.

It also depends on what browser agent you are running. Default search boxes are different between PIE and Netfront on PocketPC's and Windows Mobile 5 devices. If you are running PIE (PocketPC Internet Explorer), the page defaults to the /ie type search. If you are running Netfront, or Opera, it goes to the normal main searches.

/ie has been there for about 4 years.

The results look the same here: [webmasterworld.com...]

Amazingly I mistyped one word in the search term twice. Once spelled correctly the results were exactly as I expected. :) More coffee please.
