Google and bookmark/anchors in links

Hi there,

Is there a general consensus as to whether Google distinguishes links vs links + bookmarks?

For example:

[mysite.com...]
[mysite.com...]

OR

[mysite.com...]
[mysite.com...]

Will google consider these two links identical? Are there any complications with PR or backlink strength not being applied?

My guess is google completely ignores the bookmarks but I could be wrong.

Thanks.

Anyone got any reliable insight on this?

Don't worry about links to anchors, because while Googlebot will crawl each link, our algorithms will index the URL without the anchor.

Does the # part even get transmitted to a web server when you click a link like that in a browser?

No, its client side only and it's not retreiving a thing from the server. Honestly I've never seen it used for anything other than on-page navigation. And G1SMD I think you already know this! :>

I can ask rhetorical questions can't I?

That was another one. :-)
