today morning i checked my backlinks and found a flash file under my back links

I used a third party page rank check tool for the flash file url and it gave me 4/10 page rank for the flash file

This means that google has started giving page rank to indiviual files or its just for flash files?

Thoughts and Comments?

It doesn't matter what kind of file lives at a url. PR is assigned only to urls and not to file types. There is a link on the backlinke page that is pointing at you.

Some of our flash file urls have PR, we do have links to them though.

Can it be considered as a latest addition under their page rank technology?

Indexing Flash files and assiging page rank to the same?

I have seen sites having flash and also having a good pr maybe because of too many quality backlinks. As Brett pointed out that a pr is assigned to a url and not to a file.

May be thats true

I saw the page rank for

www.blue-widgets.com/presentation/press.swf

The url was alike which displayed a pr of 4

Also the back link within the flash file was indexed

Google consider swf files (as well as for example PDF) for PageRank calculation for a long time, i.e. PageRank is assigned to those files and passed to other documents. Flash files do not neat a link, embedding them into HTML is considered as a link.

The .swf is irrelevant. It doesn't matter what format the file is in at that url. PageRank is calculated on how many back links and quality of backlicks are pointing at that url. The page itself has nothing to do with a page rank calculation.
