If you have, let's say, 20 general keyphrases you want to rank for that creating a small 100-300 word rambling/junk page for each phrase seems to do better than having an actual full-on tutorial/article about the entire subject.
It is all much, much smaller pages with little or no information that seem to be ranking above me in areas where PR, backlinks and authority seem to be otherwise equal.
