My website hosting account was unpaid over Xmas and the pages were replaced with a message from my hoster. As a result Google has demoted my site.

Nearly all my pages have disapeared from Google rankings although most are still still showing up in Cache .The page rank seems unaffected although the page returned as http*//mysite.com as opposed to http*//www.mysite.com has a pagerank of 1 instead of 4.

Is it just a question of waiting? I hope I am not going to be relegated to the sandbox.I have readded the site to Google but so far it has only visited one of the minor pages.

Also I see I have dropped out of Google directory even though I am still in the Open Directory.

Do I just wait?

Step 0: Pay your bill!

Step 1: Do not post URLs of hosting companies.

Step 2: Submit your site to Google's sitemaps.

Step 3: Continue your usual process of adding new content, building links, etc.

Step 4: Wait, hope, and don't panic. :)

If all this fails, always go back to step 0:

Step 0: Pay your bill!

Step 0: Pay your bill!

That reminds me, don't forget to check the expiration date on your domain too.

I paid the bill 8 days ago.
I looked in Google Webmaster and itm seems OK but the homepage has changed to a non www variety with a PR of 1.
I have set the preferred domain back to *with a www*
My cache now shows a page all about the hosting company and the fact that I hadn't paid the bill!
Just sit and wait I suppose.

Funny, this exact thing happened to me. December 22 was the last day the site was in the results (Google) and the site showed up again on January 8th back where it was originally. Apparently the host tried to charge the cc (the site is set to autorenew) and couldn't. They didn't offer any explanation as to why the charge did not go through. So after some time they replaced the pages with the 'pay your bill' message. Once I noticed, I had them charge the same cc they could not charge before and the site came back up.
