I have a website which is top 5 at google.com and #190 at google.co.uk

What makes this huge difference, and what can I do to get better rank at google.co.uk?

Is the domain a .com?

If so, is it hosted in the UK? Make sure any hosting company based in the UK actually uses servers located in the UK.

berkan_ocal - i have seen sites not ranking as well on .co.uk as they do on .com

But the difference you are talking about seems very large.

Do any pages of your site show when you search on .co.uk and select "pages from the UK".

No! Only the home page, number 190

Have you traced your ip to make sure your server is in the UK?

If you are 100% sure it is not an ip location problem....

1) Links in from other .co.uk sites
2) Domain registered to a UK address? ( Just thought of that one, just a guess that it may have an influence)
3) UK spelling of words.... e.g. 'centre' and not 'center' ( another guess)

sorry to hijack this thread, but my site ranks about #28 on google.com, with a competitor ranking #30.

On google.com.au, competitor is ranked #1, i am ranked #2 - anyone know this cause of this?

M_Bison - Probably due to 'local rank'. You may have more non aussie sites linking to you so you do better in the .com search than your competitor, but he has more/better aussie sites linking to him so when the serps are stripped down to a .com.au search some of your good links (non aussie sites) get removed and thus not counted.

problem is, i have heaps of Australian links - competitor has very little in comparison - I have spent the last 3 months building Australian links.

I have a feeling that it's because the competitor has a .com.au and I have a .com, Australian searchers are less likely to click my site than the competitors.

Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I have added the word "Australia" to my title and traffic is up about 20%.

Would I be right in thinking this would be the cause?
