All of our pages we link to are asp files, although most of our competitors that rank higher than us are linking either to internal directories of theirs or html pages.
Did google recently change its search algorithm and avoid .asp files? Could this be the reason we are losing positions?
Another question: we also see webpages displaying adsense ads rank high, have you noticed google preferring sites it collaborates with?
Thank you
Zaneta
No, I can assure you that the .asp file extension has nothing to do with the ranking algorithm. I addition, many of my clients have asp sites and almost all of them have maintained or increased in Google traffic over the past 6 month.
Wtih regard to your second question, the recent threads we have discussing December and January changes in Google will show you that some adsense sites have taken quite a tumble recently. I look at a lot of ranking data all the time and I can't see any special relationship at all.
Some people suspect that there is some connection, but to me that would be a disastrous business decision for the long term -- and Google defiitely thinks long term. Google says there is no relationship, I don't see any data that suggests there is, so I'm sure the answer to your second question is also no.
