google description tag ignored

Hello,
I am doing the SEO for a company named <snip>

Every page of the site <snip> has a title, description and keywords tag. Yet if I do a search "site:<snip>" ( http://www.google.be/search?q=site:www.<snip>&hl=nl&lr=&filter=0 )

I never see the description tag, but the following not usefull info:

"<snip>Some text from the page</snip>"

Can someone please explain this strange phenomenon to me?

Are your meta descriptions on one line or are they multi-line? Are they unique to the page or is it the same description on every page?
