I've tried with a few different browsers, and even tried Google's own example queries (as at [google.com...] but it seems Google's currency conversion features are down for the count. I tried both Google.com and .co.uk.. same deal.
I also just tried calculator and unit conversion features, and they don't work either. You just get search results now. Any news about the death of these features? I always found them useful.

Just found another reference to this over at Digg -- [digg.com...] -- someone there claims it's because Google's suffering a DDOS attack, but it seems an unsubstantiated claim.
