Strange results in SERP's

Non related results coming in at No1 related at No 2

We have a series of results coming out of a template set which are providing the most relevant result at No2 and a totally irrelevant result at No1 with a 2 word phrase. Both results are supplemental with old caches dating back to May06.

There are no 2 word keyphrases matching the query on the the No1 cached page.

This is often occuring consistantly across this template network. It kinda gives me the sense that Google is utterly confused about the linking and content layout we are using.

Just as a footnote, these sites are not producing good overall results following fixes for dupe content back in Aug06

Is anyone else experiencing results like this.
