Missing title and description

G results not showing either title or description

Title and description are coded and have been showing in results up until yesterday. Now the only thing showing are the url and "similar pages".

Any explanation?

Problem gone away today but still curious how this sort of thing happens.

When the page has already been indexed, a url-only result is usually a short term issue, as you experienced. It is something we see when Google can't access the needed data for some reason.

That could mean they haven't been able to spider your page successfully in recent times -- and after several tries (check your logs!) But I think it could also mean some kind of technical problem accessing their OWN data at the data center you hit. At least I've seen url-only listings pop up in cases when I can only assume that it is google's own hiccup. With that much data spread over that many servers, troubles are bound to happen.
