Afraid Summaries Might Be Duplicate Content!

We have a website with a lot of articles and were about to create summaries for all of them.

A typical summary will be 3-4 phrases retreived from the articles. They are not the first phrases of the text but phrases that represent the main concepts of an article. The size of the summary should be around 20% of the original content.

Since we are going to create new pages with those summaries, I have a concern about creating duplicate content and being penalized by Google. Does anyone has a similar experience?

It doesn't sould like a problem to me - I've often done similar things wherever it's good for the user. Remember that duplicate content of this variety is not, even if it kicks in, a "penalty" but just a filter that won't show both urls in the same set of results.

I did that and then worried about it..til I decided I was doing it the lazy way and sat down and wrote an original synopsis about each article. I figured that was better for the user anyway.
