Load Balancer Issues with Google

google does not index our site when load balancer using Pound

Hi,

3 months ago we migrated our single server site to a load balanced solution as follows: Linux running Pound which balances to 4 Zope servers running on two different machines. Since that day google never reindexed our site.

We used the Google Webmaster tools to verify the IPs of individual machines which verified OK. But when pointing to tool to the load balancer it fails to verify (by IP and domain name). Last night we altered our DNS to point directly to one server and Google now verifies the site, but obviously one server is under a lot of strain.

Has anyone come across any problems with Google and software load balancers? I have read quite a few posts here and other forums that do not give any reason why this should happen...

We traced the problem to Pound... Replaced with PEM and google gets thorugh (but under stress PEM crashed which is why we opted for Pound).

Has onyoune experienced problems with Pound?

the problem was with the installation of Linux. What we can't understand is how all other browsers and search engines got to the site except google?!?!?

Hello aldoc, and welcome to the forums.

I can't claim any specific knowledge of the situation you describe -- glad you found a culprit, though. I do know Google sometimes makes very precise technical assumptions in their coding that can catch websites unaware.

Does anyone have further insight?
