Anyone else catch the part in the other thread where SteveB suggested that the actual update has not been implemented yet?

If that is a possibility why not wait a bit longer and see how things shake out. Since we now have confirmation that there is an update going on, underway, coming soon, it makes sense to wait and see how it ends before anyone writes a suicide note.

The problem with high tustrank sites is that when they start using link exchange and all SEO stuff (looking at 2 results for "online college degrees" type of searches for example) they are untouchable almost.
A dot EDU grants you all rights as it does for other "trusted" sites, overall the system is fine but definetely there are major outcomes there.
Some even sell text links...come on :)

It seems like good old SEO is out....my point is why? Is it better to high rank sites with almost no content or usability? Not sure.

I'm also not sold (for current results on DC's) that the age of a site should always be considered as a possible value added, some old junk sites (you know even some with automated link exchange systems and keywords in-the-url) seem to be back with this update.
Low class affiliate type of sites are back, prepare your wallets :)

I'm new to this and this update really scares me. I've put my site online three day ago, got indexed by google (only my main page) in two days. Got nice search results for combinations of my two keyords. Now, a few miutes ago the other pages of my site got indexed, but to possitions like 560 in the Serps, even though they are quality top 10 material pagese for Serps.
Because puting the site online just now I only have a few back links to my site. What are the chences that my site survives the update. I'm afraid of the sandbox or something like this...

Just to recap:
- I currently expect new PR/backlinks to be visible in a few days. I'll let you know if that changes.

I believe that there is a new binary wending its way out from the group of data centers that included 66.102.7.x . Most people won't notice much difference between data centers, but I believe that those searches are likely to be closer to what to expect.

So just to set expectations, there will still be quite a bit of flux for people to expect near-term. We'll be setting up a way for people to pass us feedback.

ShunT, it's just you. GG usually pops in when these things happen. Or perhaps you're right - I don't recall seeing a post saying when, only commenting in hindsight :)

The PR update will be somewhat interesting, but the backlinks? What's to be learned from that? Will the latest bizarro subset still include the neurotransmitter ODP clone?

Google, like Time Waits for No One. It's been a Long Long While, and I Can't Be Satisfied, my site just won't rank.

In fact, my pagerank is Coming Down Again. I guess I'll Try a Little Harder, but I Don't Know Why.

Time Is On My Side so maybe someday I'll get some Satisfaction and Not Fade Away.

I'd be a Fool To Cry, but When the Whip Comes Down, my pagerank could be Slipping Away, but then again, You Can't Always Get What You Want.

Google was Hot Stuff when it was new --- and it may be Just My Imagination, but I'm having Mixed Emotions 'cause I think Yahoo's results are more relevent All Down The Line.

Either your site is Hot Stuff or it's just Tumbling Dice... at least I'm not Back To Zero after all the Dirty Work is done -- but PR, I've Had It With You.

If an established, legitimate, relevant-to-our-sector site that we link to went to PR0 some months ago (they said due to a DNS problem), is it a good idea to remove those links to them?

GG, let's hope you're right with my sites because last night (NZ) I went to bed and dreamt that the sky had fallen big time.

I have to be honest and say that a lot of rubbish has disappeared from our industry and that is great! but when I saw half of our traffic go, I used the expression 'baby out with the bathwater'

I am praying that our traffic comes back and there are a couple more switches to press because I feel that we produce damn good and informative sites according to the word of Google and I know that other webmasters like myself are feeling the same.

It is most important to keep some sort of discussions ongoing with such a change in Algo "Stuff".

As a webmaster for many sites and all White-hat ones at that, these days it is crucial to be ethical about posting of information to us all to a degree.

I always report problem sites to you (GG) via the online Google webmaster page tools; I am not the only one that helps Google with the SERPS and Algo in reporting the bad... being fair is a request at this point. We do our part, it's your turn. (Tag your it - Smiling)

Please explain the overpass that fell on me and others.

I came out of the sandbox two weeks ago and was hoping that this update would give me some lift. Still running about 450-500 in the serps for keywords. ridiculous. Way behind some of the most non-pertinent results out there. I'm afraid this is just a 'heartbreaker' for me.
