I'm on a windows shared hosting server so I have no access to IIS, and I want to get rid of some html files as I was using blogger as a blog hosted on my website and now I'm concerned regarding duplicate content issues etc.

Is there a way to redirect these pages in a search engine friendly way? Or is it best to just let them return a 404 error by getting rid of them?

I guess my point is what is the consequence of having 404 errors in a site? Does this raise any red flags? Or will they just go suupplemental and eventually dissapear?

Just make sure you remove the links on your site to those URLs - no problem, then, they just fade away as you described.

If the server will allow you to send .html extensions to the asp engine, then you can script each page with a specific redirect. See [webmasterworld.com...] for more info.
