However, there is something that is holding me back. The site is a couple of years old, but still has a zero PageRank (PR0). Does it mean that it has been banned by Google and it will be difficult to achieve good rankings with it?
The web site seems properly indexed by Google, though. site:domain.com reveals it has 50 pages on the index.
Also, it is returned in the second page of the search results page for a competitive keyword.
If you were I, would you buy the site ignoring the PR0?
The fact that the site hasn't got any PR can be explained by the fact that:
- the owner didn't develop a proper link building strategy
- the content is not good enough to persuade others to link to the site
- the site has been penalized for some reason and therefor nobody wants to link to them
- etcetera
Returning on the second page on a competitive keyword is nice but not good enough... so this can not be a reason to buy the site.
My conclusion: the owner did not develop and implemented a proper SEO strategy, maybe because he's simply not in the SEO business and doesn't understand the importance of it.
If you think you can optimize it properly for SE and conduct a good link building strategy... go ahead and buy it
