Vanity Domains as SERPS

i have a set of (keyword containing) vanity domains i would like to put to use. my idea is to optimize (for the keywords contained in the domain name) the default page on each domain then host all of them on an IP for vanity domains only. each one of these pages will contain a link to the main site, but this link is for humans only (robots=index,nofollow) to avoid a doorway penalty.

in the same C block i will have the main site, with no links to the vanity domains. these might get picked up by googlebot or they might not - it doesnt matter either way because my main purpose is to have humans directly entering the domain names be funneled to the main site.

does anybody foresee a penalty for using the above strategy to make use of my vanity domains? if yes, would constantly having (unique) new content on these vanity domains help avoid the penalty?

i just don't want these SERPS to be treated as doorways...

Why are people always trying to invent "schemes" to try to trick Google into thinking that your vanity domain is something other than what it really is?

this is not an attempt to trick google. this is an attempt to make use of the vanity domains. i dont even care if google doesnt index them - my only concern in regards to google is to avoid penalties on the main domain.

In that case work on getting one site on one domain indexed, and forget trying to get the other domains into the SERPs at all.

If the vanity domains contain keywords that are potential type-ins, then a 301 redirect to your principal domain will get you some mileage from those domains. No need to host any content at all.

Then block googlebot with robots.txt -- and instead of index,nofollow use noindex,nofollow. The fact that you chose index,nofollow is the indicator that you are hoping to get some search engine action from those domains. Also you mentioned "optimizing" - so of course you are looking for some traffic from on the SERPs.

But as you are already aware, your idea is to use these domains as holders for doorway pages. Today's search engines will not like that - it's just not 1997 anymore. It's not a viable idea.
