I have a client who purchased an established domain which is hosted in the US. The client happens to be based in Canada, but is only interested in US traffic. For whatever internal reason they wish to move the domain to a Canadian host.
Since I have historically had no trouble ranking sites hosted in Canada on google.com, I wouldn't think to have cause to advise against the move. I don't believe the site will lose its rankings on google.com, though it may gain better rankings on google.ca.
Does anyone have cause to believe that a physical move out of the US would negatively affect rankings on google.com?
In the thread I link to it was mentioned:
The Canadian situation is a bit interesting in that if a company is using Canadian identified IP's they will get a boost in the Canadian version of Google and so far I have seen no evidence that it costs them any rank in the US results. Best of both worlds maybe!
This has also been my experience, but I'm concerned this may not always be the case. Has anyone had a bad experience in this regard?
