Hi

We have a site widgets.com and another site greenwidgets.com. We want to merge the two so that greenwidgets.com goes to widgets.com/green.

greenwidgets.com currently has good visibility, if we set up a 301 re-direct from greenwidgets.com to widgets.com/green will we be placed in a mini Google sandbox and if so does anyone know how long it would take to get our rankings up high again?

Any help would be much appreciated

Does widgets.com rank for anything now? My experience with 301 redirects shows that redirecting to a new domain does not immediately bring along the old site's visibility to the new one in the search results. However, if you are already getting search engine traffic on widgets.com, then it might work for you a bit faster.

The URLs that you redirect will turn into Supplemental Results and continue to show in the results for very many months. The redirect will ensure that visitors to those URLs still hit your site.

That is the best way.
