Google indexing category URL's not product URL's

I use Google sitemaps, Adsense and Base. From looking at Google's webmaster tools I see that my products are listed but 90% of my top listed results are links to the category that the product being searched for is in. Here's what my product url looks like;

http://www.example.com/sport/shop.php/category/brandname/brandname-123-type-product-description-code/p_456.html

Could it be too long and Google's saying "screw it"? Any thought would be greatly appreciated.

Patrick

It's not the url length, but perhaps it is the click distance from any inbound link. That would mean the product page itself is very low PR, and the link text on the category page is grabbing the search ranking. There have been a couple other mentions of this phenomenon around the forum recently.
