I just noticed I'm ranking on the 1st page for the plural form of a keyword for one of my sites.

The deal is, I don't have the plural form anywhere on the page that is ranking.

The other interesting thing is that I don't rank on the 1st page on the singular form. The singular form of the keyword is on the page that is being ranked for the plural form.

does the plural form appear in links to the page?

look at the google cache for the page and that will tell you.

I would agree that this is probably because of inbound links.

If you do a search for "computers" you will always find companies like Dell and Apple near the top of the results but the word computers does not appear on their home pages.
