each reports different quantity of pages containing search term...

Searching for 'my search term' via the Google toolbar it is reported that there are about 2,160,000 pages containing the search term yet when searching via Google UK it is reporting that there are about 3,440,000 pages containing the search term.
I'd always assumed (ass, you and me) that using the toolbar was useful but it would appear not.

Sure the toolbar is useful -- lots of people do searches from it and they may come to your website from the results. But you definitely can get a different set of results, just as two computers in the same office may also get a different set of results.
