On 21st Oct we have lost rank for major keyword...
For one of the competitve keyword our rank was 4th, however we were thrown to 21st rank... this clearly signifies that we have been penalized ..

And this effect is on many keywords...

How can we come out of this Penalty...

No.
I asume that there is no reason for penalty.
I'll wait to see.
On some DC's it's ok.

What would be the punishment for Agressive Link Exchange...

I think we have been penalized for link exchange... because some of the link exchange pages which were having Page rank 4 has gone to Zero and it is not in the cache also...

Is there anybody who has faced similar penalty and For how long would we have to face this penalty...

Hi,
I suspect that there was a big shakeup in algorithm at the end of October. Without doing anything different, a site went from #8 to #22 for a keyword.
This change may or may not be temporary. Google never tells it straight, do they?

I this effect is for single keyword or more keywords?

Other than My site I haven't seen any change with other sites, they are at their own position...

This can be automated Penalty... If you cross a particular benchmark you are punished...

But the thing is.. how to get out of this?

Hi,
It is sometimes really hard to detect effects of an actual change in algorithm. It may affect some keywords or not others, depending on what factors caused your rank for that keyword. EG, your site is "Animals" ranked 5 for animals because of content, keywords, and mostly for inbound links. Google changes the way it counts inbound links. This lowers your animals main page to 30. However "tiger" or "Cat" pages are top tranked because their rank depended mostly on the content, and so did the rank of their competition, since there were not a lot of ranks to inside pages of "animals" sites.

If you did not do much, there is no reason to assume a penalty. Another thing to check that seems to be important (sometimes) is bad links at your Web site. Search and destroy.
