I typed into the google search bar link:mydomainname.com to do a link check. When I did this about 6 months ago I got about 100 inbound links listed. When I did this a couple weeks ago, it said I only had around 20. Where did they go? Some of these I paid for.

the short answer is that G doesn't show "all" inbound links to you....

only a slight cross section...

you'd be better off going to Y Or M to do that check to get an idea of sites pointing to yours...

You checked your inbound links 6 months ago whereas in the month of September, Google has updated the backlinks as well as Page Rank. First of all check whether your link still exists or not. Sudden drop in total no of backlinks may be of plenty of reasons. It will be better if you use any 'Backlink Analyzer Tool' to see whether your link still exists or not.

I think you should check:"linkdomain:www.domain.com" at yahoo, its result is more accurate.
