Strange stuff indeed?

Hi All,

I just noticed some weirdness on Google, when I was checking my sites positions today I noticed that Google was using a meta description to describe my site. Now comes the strange part, that meta description has not been used in my code for almost two years, in fact there are no meta keyword or description tags used in my code at all anymore! Anyone know what's going on?

If you have your site listed in dmoz, it is likely that Google takes the description from them.

If you don't want the dmoz description to show up, you can use a 'noodp' meta tag in the html header. Matt Cutts talks about this and uses it on his website.

Thanks for the heads up on that noodp tag Cavendish, I hadn't heard of that before.
