Hi there, I'm going to be changing host because I need a better deal on bandwidth etc but I'm just worried about how much this could impact on my site' ranking - I'm currently #3 on google for my most important keyword, will changing host cause a big drop or just a small one? Does anyone have experience of this?

Thanks

Changing hosts normally does not affect your ranking in any way, big or small. All that changes is the IP address. Your domain name and full URLs remain exactly the same -- and the url is what gets indexed un a search engine. I have moved hosting many times for many domains and never noticed even a ripple.

If you have any concern, you can follow the detailed step-by-step plan that Google engineer Matt Cutts first tested and then published on his website.

Thank you Tedster

Your responses on here are always so helpful and detailed and of great assistance to less experienced people like myself. The way you give so generously of your time even to those of us who ask the "dumb" questions is really appreciated! That link is really handy and I would never have found it. Cheers! :)
