I just noticed a small change when I logged in to my Sitemap account today; the Sitemap tab has a new field - namely URLs submitted, which I thought could be quite useful at times.

Drawing from my little experience of using Sitemaps, I was wondering why there isn't a feature that would allow the user to remove URLs manually, rather than Sitemaps reporting them as URLs not reached (from within the Diagnostics). In my case, it still complains about 4-5 URLs which I removed from the site over 4 months ago, despite the fact that I updated the Sitemap file accordingly. So if I was to decide that I wanted to remove pages from my site, I could potentially report that to Sitemaps - which would also benefit Google as it would drop those pages from its index/cache much sooner. Maybe a future feature I hope, but for the time being I also hope that there isn't a penalty for those few 'unreachable' URLs.

Regards.
