Why does Big G visit my site for hours every day and never update?

Google visits my site every single day for hours at a time, going through all of my products, links and policies. In over two months it has only updated the Index page in its index and still has a number of outdated links in the index.

Can anyone shed any light on this please?

I have a similar problem with one of my sites. But in my case, it was caused by a coding error (actively blocking the bots to crawl the pages). Although I have corrected the code, and G frequents my site, none of the deindexed pages returned. But before making a conclusion, I have to wait for a while to observe the reaction of other SEs (MSN and Yahoo).
