Does Google rank https pages lower

I have a client that has been advised to put the whole site behind https. Currently only part of the site is secured in this way. My concern is that although Google does return some of these pages in its results, would the site traffic suffer if all the pages were behind a secure server

If you think about it, secure sites are only accessible to browsers that can support it. I have seen HTTPS sites rank, but the amount of link popularity needed to get past this filter is quite high.
