Penalty for RSS feed? No duplication issue...

I created a feed in newsgator using keywords so the feed should be unique. I added the feed to my site and it appears that every page on the site has lost page rank.

My imagination or does having a feed on a site produce an instant google penalty. There should not be a duplication issue here (should there?) as the exact content does not exist anywhere else (i.e. the page on my site displaying the feed is just 300 word abstracts of full articles that appear elsehere on the web at separate locations)
