hi everyone, does anyone have any thoughts on what Google would do to your rankings if you put a page of content on your website in another language?

I've got a very stong .co.uk domain name which ranks well in .com and .co.uk. I'm contemplating adding a page in another language, e.g. French, and seeing what happens to that page - would it rank the same in .com and would it attract any French visitors? (I'm assuming that with my domain it won't do anything in .fr) The content would be unique and not translated, but am concerned about what G may think if it sees 100 odd pages in English, and one in French.

Has anyone gone international with a .co.uk domain name and how has going international affected rankings?

Am really interested to hear if anyone has thoughts on this! Thanks

I don't think Google really minds what languages you use; it matches sets of letters (words to thee and me).

So if your UK readers use French search terms, those pages will appear, but in competition with those French sites, rather than other UK sites.

If you are tagetting people in France, however, you'd do much better to get domain.fr - or have your site hosted in France.
