I have a small corporate site that I maintain for a client. Nothing controversial, just a standard 12 page site about some kind of industrial process that is their business. It's clean, text based and doesn't contain anything likely to trigger a ban.

Around a month ago we moved it's domain to a trusted UK server. The site didn't change at all though.

Up until yesterday it was receiving Google traffic. Today it has been dumped from the index and a site: or info: search produces zero results.

Google sitemaps last downloaded the sitemap 9 hours ago. My Google toolbar is still showing pagerank when I visit the site. Just no listings at all.

Is this happening to anyone else today? I really do hope it's a glitch.

I moved my site recently and had wild variations in search results for several weeks before things settled down for the better (touch wood!). Luckily it did stay in the index.

I would not be at all surprised if your site came back tomorrow, vanished on Saturday and came back again on Monday before things start settling down.

Sometimes I think small small sites get dropped if they haven't been updated or gotten any fresh links for awhile.

When you moved your site, did you move to a new host with the same domain name retained for the site, or did you move to a new domain name too?

Those are vastly different things.

I think I know what might have happened.

Turns out there were two domains pointing at the same site content. I moved one domain and updated the site. I didn't know there was a second domain. The second domain was then switched off.
The second domain may have been the domain that Google recognised as the original and the one that has been dropped may have been marked as a duplicate.

I'm hoping the solution will be to just get hold of the other domain and put a 301 redirect on it, or better yet, reinstate the site on it and put the 301 on the domain that google has dropped.
