Coolest Guy in the World

How do they do that?

One of the ways the SEO gurus gain credibility is by showing that they can rank high at will.

There's a running contest to rank highly for the term "coolest guy in the world" on Google, for example.

Well, the coolest guy (currently) has a page and I'm trying to understand how he did it by examining the cached version.

The page is large but contains very few occrences of any of the words from "coolest guy in the world", nor obvious synonyms.

The page does have 350 odd incoming links - many are from the same sites. But when I look at the source code for these pages - I don't see the incoming link to the top ranking page.

So why is Google listing them as incoming links?

Any insights appreciated.

The Coolest Guy in the world (seo) contest was held about a year ago.

The sites (particularly Fallon's) are getting 'credit' for links that were there and now aren't.

(hint, hint) Ponder this deeply. ;)

Edited to add. Oh yeah. The words "coolest guy in the world" never appeared on the site even when the contest was running.

Do a search for GoogleBombing, that will explain it all.
